Finding Your Superpower

Graylin C. - Area Coach, Taco Bell Corp.

Originally from Charlotte, Graylin spent most of his youth in a small town called Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Throughout middle and high school, he was heavily involved in concert choir, while also playing sports like soccer and track. Graylin then graduated with a degree in professional communications and a minor in music from college, and found himself working at a popular beverage company. This is where he discovered that being different from those around him was actually his superpower. Now, at Taco Bell Corp, he channels that energy even more!

“When I first started at Taco Bell, I was nervous because it was really different from the beverage company I worked at before. But the reason why I chose Taco Bell was because I knew I would be able to show up as my true, authentic self. It was exciting and nerve-racking at the same time.

Graylin was hired as an Area Coach for Taco Bell Corp. last year, overseeing restaurant teams and fueling his passion for helping those around him.

“The role I’m in is really the entry point to make an ultimate impact on people, which is also my favorite part of the job. I know it may seem generic, but people interaction is where I thrive. So the ability to do this AND change the lives of so many is fulfilling to me. I get to teach so many young adults about real skills they will take with them throughout life, leaving a lasting impact on their future.”

At the end of the day, Graylin believes it’s really about the impact we have on the people around us — how we show up, how we support each other, and how we make others feel seen and valued. These are also ideals shared by the LGBTQIA+ community that he is part of.

Looking to the future, Graylin hopes to be remembered as someone who helped others find and embrace their inner light.

“I hope people remember me as the person who let them truly be whoever they want to be, showing them that their uniqueness is an advantage, not their downfall. Whatever makes you different can be a superpower, and everybody should find their superpower.”
